Citizens of Cushing are encouraged to come vote today for additional capital improvements. The city is seeking to replace two of it's fire trucks, one street sweeper and to build a new animal shelter. According to Cushing City Manager, Terry Brannon, these improvements would exceed the city's set spending limit of $185,000. "We are asking your blessing to expend these funds which are already in place," says Brannon. "The charter spending limit is $185k so anything over must be blessed by the people of Cushing. The sales tax funding mechanism was granted by the people in 2009, so no new sales tax will be involved with this project and the money is already in place."
With the Commission approval, the City of Cushing is seeking to move forward immediately with th purchase of the fire trucks and street sweeper and would propose to build the shelter in 2019 to allow the existing sales tax time to regenerate.
