AT Overhead Doors - Lee and Johna Skinner had the vision of putting on a 4th Of July event that really put Cushing in the spotlight. They have been working hard to garner sponsors, and to organize a great party for the City they love, live and work in. And that's how this all got started. They have done well. It's a large undertaking for two people. But Lee & Johna are the kind of people that are not easily discouraged.
This event is truly put on, by the community, for the community. So what is going to take place on the 4th? A Parade Down Broadway - entries are still being taken by the way. More information is available on the Facebook page. CLICK HERE. Immediately following in Memorial Park - Car Show, Hot Dog Eating Contest, Watermelon Eating Contest, Wheel Barrow Races, Food Trucks, Appearances by some of the cast from Street Outlaw's - Team Sonoma. The City of Cushing has again provided the fireworks. But they will be even bigger and better than recent years, not to mention more of them. The Fire Department will ignite the firework display, from the west side of Memorial Park, providing a great view from the park interior. And it will all be set to patriotic music your whole family will love. It will be a great display of patriotic sentiment.
Throughout the day, among all the other activities going on, there will be a plethora of LIVE music. Will they be artist and musicians you may have seen before?. Maybe, but most likely not. There is a full line up throughout the afternoon. The headliner is Joe Uveges from Colorado. The Singer/Songwriter recording artist will perform that evening. Then the Red Grass String Band, from Norman Oklahoma, will take the stage for a couple hours of great music and street dancing, prior to the fireworks. It's just plain good old fashion fun, on the 4th of July. All done on the largest stage in Cushing, at the Memorial Park Amphitheater.
Here's a little sample of Singer Songwriter Joe Uveges.
