This week’s Stats Spotlight focuses on Turnovers. In this week’s victory over the Beggs Demons, the key turned out to be the famed Turnover margin, where the Tigers were +3. Beggs had 3 fumbles and lost 2 of them and had 2 interceptions, one of which was the CCA Play of the Game. Cushing had 1 fumble and not interceptions.
Beggs out-passed Cushing 138 yards to 97 yards. The Demons also out-rushed the Tigers 301 yards to 240 yards. Time of possession was firmly in Cushing’s favor as the Tigers held the ball for almost a full 28 minutes. The Tiger work-horse was once again Kory Wiley who carried 31 times for 175 yards and 2 Touchdowns. Wiley also caught 2 passes for 18 yards and another score. Kade Holderread had another solid game going 7 for 10 with 97 yards, 2 TDs and not INTs.
Cushing took the lead early in the 3rd Quarter when the Demon Quarterback was hit hard and coughed up the ball. England Honeybuss was quick to scoop it up from the 33-yard line and return it for the Tiger touchdown. That would have been the play of the game, however, a Beggs team playing with resolve and growing momentum was driving with less than 1:30 remaining and trailing by only 6 points. The Demons were facing 1st and 19 on the Tiger 20 when Alphonzo Devers stepped in front of the Beggs receiver and caught the pass at the 11-yard line with 1:16 remaining. The Tigers were able to take a knee three times and claim the victory.
