This week the Stats spotlight shines brightly on the Cushing passing game. Against a Checotah Wildcat squad which was reeling from a loss the previous week against Okmulgee, the Tigers jumped out early scoring quickly and plentifully. By the end of the 1st Quarter Tigers had scored FOUR Touchdowns.
Kade Holderread, the Crown Energy MVP, lit up the sky with 5 Touchdown passes to four different receivers. Kade’s first pass was a 77-yard strike to Trey Morris for the score. Matt Yates and Nick Criner each added a score before England Honeybuss hauled in two great passes for scores. Holderread finished the night 12 of 14 for 272 yards and no INTs.
Kory Wiley added another TD on the ground with 63 yards on 12 carries. The Tiger ground game was spread around between Wiley, Trey Morris (4 carries/22 yards) and Matt Yates (4 carries/16 yards) in the first half of play, but became the dominant part of the game in the 2nd half with Grant Yates, Jansen Callanan and Andrew Mitchell coming in for relief and posting 25 combined yards on 18 carries.
The Tigers displayed a strong aerial attack to compliment their well-known strong ground game. Stop by this week to watch as the Tigers take on Beggs at O’Dell Field in what promises to be intense District competition.
