Week 5’s contest versus the Purple Pirates of Bristow was a tale of two halves. In the first half, an over-zealous Tiger defense was slashed and gashed for 161 yards. The triple option out of Bristow’s flexbone was nearly unstoppable and found the End Zone twice for 48-yard and 38-yard Touchdowns. The Tiger offense was bottled up and checked to 163 yards and only two Touchdowns (for 13-yards and 45-yards, both on passes).
Late in the 2nd quarter of play, the Tiger Defense seemed to tighten up and got their first 3-and-out of the game. Those adjustments solidified the Tigers into an impenetrable wall. In the second half of play Bristow was held to NEGATIVE 13 yards. Cushing forced 3 fumbles, but all three were recovered by Bristow. The Pirates finished with -4 yards passing for the night.
For the Tigers, it was another evening of the Twin Hammers of Wiley and Yates. Wiley led the charge with 24 carries, 110 yards and 1 TD and a 2-point conversion on the ground while pulling in 1 pass for a 13-yard TD. Yates tacked on 50 yards on 11 carries and his own TD.
The Tigers amassed a total of 359 yards against a proud Pirate team and notched a well deserved victory.
